What is text roleplay?
You do not play yourself but a character, with a name, a past and goals of their own. What they say you simply type; what they do you describe with /me, the world around them with /do. Nobody plays for points or to win: we write a story together.
This way of playing comes from the multiplayer servers of GTA: San Andreas, SA-MP and MTA:SA, where communities built cities, factions and whole economies for years. Project Sky brings that feeling to Project Zomboid.
- In character (IC): everything your character knows, says and does
- Out of character (OOC) talk has a channel of its own
- The rules come with a short quiz before your first character
- sayThomas Shaw says: Good evening. Licence and registration, please.
- /meBen Cole slowly rolls the window down and reaches for the glovebox.
- /doThe licence is in the glovebox, the registration behind the sun visor. (( Ben Cole ))
- sayBen Cole says: Here you go, officer. Is there a problem?
- /tryThomas Shaw tries to read the plate in the dark — and succeeds.
- /ooc(( Ben Cole: sorry, my connection is lagging ))
SkyCity, today
We turned the detailed world of Project Zomboid into a living city. No apocalypse and no zombies: there are jobs, shops, banks, the police, a housing market and traffic. A smartphone in your pocket, internet radio in the car: a city of the 2020s.
Fair play
The server decides everything: it checks money, items, vehicles and keys, a modified client gets nowhere.
A life that stays
Accounts, characters, money and property are kept in our own database, safe from a lost save.
Roleplay first
Names over heads, a chat built for roleplay, rules everyone learns before playing.
What the city holds
A few of the systems built for the server. Every one of them is decided on the server.
Factions
Police, ambulance, mechanics, the city government – and on the other side the mafia and gangs. Ranks, permissions, treasury, pay.
Jobs
Start at the town hall: factory worker, postman, street sweeper. Paid in cash for every piece of work.
Economy
Cash in your pocket and a bank account, ATMs and shops. Every forint is booked on the server.
Vehicles
Dealerships, garages, gas stations, towing. Driving needs a licence: theory and driving test at the exam centre.
Property
Houses, flats and shops with keys of their own: lock them, sell them, share them with your faction.
Police and justice
Handcuffs, pat-downs, fines, warrants, cells and raids with a badge. The police work from their own database.
Phone and radio
Calls, texts, contacts, ads and the 112 emergency line; walkie-talkies on frequencies of your own.
Injuries and medics
A badly hurt character is knocked out, not dead: the medics can revive them, or they wake up in hospital.
